Traveling exhibitions
Traveling photographic exhibitions created by indigenous peoples themselves, distributed internationally in cultural institutions, climate events, and UNESCO spaces.

Mission
This project aims to support Indigenous peoples in taking ownership of their own narratives in response to the effects of climate change on their territories.
Practically, it involves providing them with access to cameras, training them in their use, and then curating a traveling exhibition of their photographs. These exhibitions will be showcased at major international conferences, as well as in cultural and educational venues around the world.
Objectives
The project pursues a dual objective: on one hand, to enable Indigenous communities to autonomously document the environmental disruptions they are witnessing; on the other hand, to bring forth visual narratives shaped by their own voices, perspectives, and sensibilities — in contrast to the often external, partial, or stereotyped representations they are subject to. These narratives aim to raise awareness among the general public, but also — through UNESCO’s network and events — among policy-makers.

This initiative thus helps to position Indigenous peoples as agents of their own communication and direct witnesses of global climate challenges.

Upcoming dates
Each year, the exhibitions will focus on a key theme dedicated to a specific ecosystem. The year 2026, which will mark the launch of the traveling exhibition, has been proclaimed the International Year of Rangelands and Pastoralists by the United Nations General Assembly, following an initiative by Mongolia. This theme will highlight traditional pastoral practices and their fundamental role in environmental sustainability, climate resilience, and the preservation of living cultures.
